As we begin Labor Day Weekend, in uniquely 2020 style, we step back, take a deep breath and observe all that has happened over the last half year or so. Our world locally, nationally and internationally has changed forever. This has been a hard and stressful time for all of us.
We believe, as so many of you do as well, that now it is more important than ever to support our local businesses and communities. The recent lock downs, “Shelter in Place” orders and numerous other restrictions have disproportionately damaged local businesses, restaurants, the hospitality industry and non-profit organizations. The truth is that some have gone out of business for good, never to return.
The people that own and work in these establishments are an integral part of the life blood of each and every community in which we live, work and play. They need our help – the support of each and every one of us who lives here – now more than ever before.
Therefore, we are taking this time to encourage all of you who can to find some way to support your local organizations. For us at Stone Distributors, that translates into supporting the organizations that are serving as positive role models to help our children become positive, productive members of our community as they mature into adulthood.

AFCA is one of the many organizations serving an integral role during this time of social distancing and isolation in particular. As we all know kids have been significantly, negatively effected by the lockdowns and school closures. Youth sports and the organizations that support them are vital to the continuing development of our children.
Please understand that this article is not about trying to push any of you to support football, cheerleading, or any one particular organization. That should always be a personal choice made by you and/or your family based upon your interests, goals and current situation. We are highlighting AFCA because it represents just one of the many worthy organizations that exist currently that are in need of your help… your support, to continue to survive during these unprecedented times.
The point is that now is the time, more than ever, to reach out to local businesses and non-profits in your own community and offer whatever assistance you can – whether it be in the form of money or volunteering your time and/or expertise.
Of course we realize that the large majority of you, like us, have had to “tighten our belts” financially in our own lives during this time. It has been hard enough to keep a roof over your family’s head, food on the table and the electricity turned on. The thought of sparing even a dollar for any other cause seems like a bridge too far.
But if you can, now is the time to support these local groups, whichever ones fit into your or your family’s areas of interest. Helping them survive through this harrowing time will serve to strengthen these communities we all live in, now and long into the future.
You just may find that it also helps you to feel better about the world, and your place in it, as well. Being charitable tends to have that effect on us humans.
